What Garden Supplies are Right for Your Garden?
So you want to be a novice gardener. The main concern before picking out your garden essentials is to determine the type of garden you want to raise. Is it going to be a simple container garden for herbs, a flower garden on your front lawn or a large vegetable garden on your farm?
There is a plethora of garden supplies available to you in the market and you may end up buying the wrong tool if you are not sure what to use it for. You should be able to clearly define what it is you want to accomplish and how much time and effort you are willing to put into it.
If you are concerned about space and need to start small, then a container garden is ideal for you. All you need are small garden pots and other containers where you can raise herbs and small flowering plants outside or inside your house. You can place these potted plants in the window sill of your living room or kitchen, anywhere where there is ample sunlight.
You need some tools to get you started. Containers can be made of clay, porcelain, wood, metal or plastic. Large or small containers? It depends on the size of your garden space. You will also need a trowel, gardening gloves, mulch, paints and stains to decorate pots, and cleaning brushes. You may also need a wheelbarrow in case you need to move a lot of stuff at once.
Preparing a flower and vegetable garden is a different matter. You will need digging tools such as spades, hoes and fork. A wheelbarrow will help you move mounds of garden waste to the compost pit. A garden hose or a sprinkler system with timer is definitely a must.
The garden supplies listed here are basic and can vary according to your needs. You need to get some suggestions from the gardening staff in your local nursery to make sure you get things right. You can read books on gardening for novices and find additional information over the internet.
Your local garden supply shop can be a rich source of information regarding the supplies and tools you need to successfully raise a garden. Although gardening books are a great way to get you started, nothing beats the advice and suggestions from a weathered and experienced gardener.
Gardening is a technical hobby that requires a lot of time, effort, knowledge and enthusiasm on your part. Don’t lose any of these important components and you will be rewarded with a colorful and vibrant garden in no time.

if i’m simply tending to a small backyard garden, are wheelbarrows and spades really necessary?
are there any simpler alternatives i could use?
