Tips on how to Buy and Check a Used Caravan
It would be nice to travel once in a while. But it would be much wiser if you can travel without too much hassle like waiting for your plane trip or booking through travel agencies, which can be quite daunting enough. Fortunately for us who love to travel and have mini-vacations, there is a new way in spending your holiday, and this is by having a caravan holiday. But buying a caravan will be much more expensive than just booking a vacation from one of the travel agencies. So, how can you have a great holiday if a caravan holiday is what you want? If you have a friend who has a caravan trailer and is willing to lend it to you, then good for you. If you do not, then the next best thing is to look for used caravan for sale.
Tips in Buying a Used Caravan
As stated above, buying a used caravan is much cheaper than a brand new one, and there are a lot of used caravans out there than you can choose from. The question is, do you know how to choose the best one?
- In buying a used caravan, you have to check the ball weight and tare weight of the caravan and see if it is compatible with your car.
- Since it is a used caravan, you also have to ask the seller if the price he listed it for already includes other caravan accessories such as the TV and awning. Does it include other necessities like brake controller for the car or caravan starter pack? Or do you need to buy new ones?
These are just some of the questions you have to ask the seller. If what you are going to spend is much greater than what you will spend for a regular vacation tour, then take the latter if it will save you some money. But think of this, do you want to go on regular caravan holidays? If your answer is yes, then buy your used caravan.
Other Areas to Check
Aside from the two above, there are still a lot of things that you have to check to assure yourself that the used caravan is worth your money. Here are some of them.
- Check the seal and see if the inside of the caravan is damp. If it is, then it means that the seals are no longer working properly.
- Check the lockers and the doors. What use will it be if these two do not work, right?
- Check the windows and floors. You should check for cracks in the windows and the floors. Too many of these cracks, and it will mean more money spent in repairing them.
- Check the electricity and gas. Of course, you are going to need these two along the way, and they have to be in tiptop shape. Make sure also that they abide by the safety standards.
Other necessary things that you have to check are the hitch and chassis, stabilizer, jockey wheel, tires, brakes, and breakaway cables among other things. I know it seems there is too much to do and too many to check, but it will all be worth it if the used caravan you are thinking of buying is in good running condition.
