Three Basic Awning Materials – Canvas, Vinyl and Waterproof

Looking for the right awning material for you? Well, there are three basic awning materials that can be easily said as widely used and very popularly bought by awning users. We have canvas awning materials, vinyl awning materials, and waterproof awning materials. Interestingly, these awning materials can come across as very affordable and very expensive at the same time, depending on what type of awning device you will use. There are the retractable awnings which can either be manually or electrically operated. Under these retractable awnings, we have the lateral arm ones, side or drop arm awnings, the portable or pop-up ones, and the sun shade or sun screen awnings.

Canvass Awning Material

First, we have the canvas awning material. Canvas, as an awning material, usually has a two year warranty. This material, which is usually used for canopies or tents, allows a bit of a translucent view for its users. Such awnings include what we call the solar shades or solar screens, which practically just shields the users for the sun’s rays. Canvas awning material is not very weather resistant as it can get wet by rain or other liquids. The canvas awning material can also be used as visors for windows and doors in different colors and sizes. Such products cost around £400-£600.

Vinyl Awning Material

Vinyl awning materials are a little similar to the canvas awning material as it is not really weather resistant (though more weather resistant than canvas). It also lasts only around two years. Vinyl polyester is the main fabric used for vinyl awning materials. Vinyl is also layered with other materials to increase strength and flexibility. Vinyl pigmentation layers are usually treated for UV resistance and then, as mentioned earlier, layered with materials such as Dacron. In buying your vinyl awning material, make sure that there are big and even seams and that there are no wrinkles or bubbles in the seams as vinyl is fused using heat. These products cost also around £400-£600.

Waterproof Awning Material

Lastly, waterproof awning material is very popular in businesses and simple awning products. Some building constructions require such materials which are usually also fire resistant. As you may guess, umbrellas use these waterproof awning materials. Some patio and porch awning products also use such material as it can surely shield the area from rain. Unlike vinyl and canvas, waterproof awning materials last for around 5 years, also longer than the lifespan of the threads used for seams.
