Practical Kitchen Fittings and Measurements
For most people, the do-it-yourself style of home renovations, repairs and what-have-you’s is the better option rather than spending more than they can really afford. It also gives them the flexibility of working around their own hectic schedules, tight budgets and pace.
With a professional kitchen decorator, time is a-ticking because every day is another day you have to pay for his or her services, and until your kitchen project is finished, you’ll be worried about accumulating expenses.
Now, if you do-it-yourself, you don’t necessarily have to be on your own on your kitchen project. This is the perfect time to bond with family and friends, and they could give suggestions on kitchen improvements as you go along. It would be even better if one of them has ample experience and knowledge in kitchen fittings as these are important to making everything fit within the dimension of your kitchen.
The Importance of Accurate Kitchen Fittings
Suffice it to say that if you get the wrong measurements, your fixtures and kitchen equipment will not fit, and then you have to redo everything again – measuring and making everything fit this time.
It’s double the trouble and a waste of time, so better get it right the first time, no matter how long it takes. When doing your measurements, do them over again at least two more times after the first one just to make sure that you get the dimensions right.
One of the necessities in creating your kitchen space is by making a triangle from your sink to your refrigerator to where you cook. This will give you ease and comfort when doing your chores and could cut your time in half as compared to going back and forth to the other side of the room.
When measuring this triangle, make sure also that you give enough space to walk around in or at least fit three people as a crowded area makes it difficult for cooking. The height of your ceiling should also be taken from different angles.
Learning about Kitchen Fittings
If this is your first time to ever make your own kitchen and you want to do it yourself, the bad news is that you might have a hard time understanding everything you need to do all at once, and it could get frustrating most of the time.
The good news is that you can learn about kitchen designs and fittings just over the internet. You don’t have to enroll in carpentry to know how to fix your kitchen. However, you will definitely need to know at least the basics of carpentry, electrical wirings, and maybe a bit of plumbing and placing tiles and such.
This is where your friends and family can come in handy. You can all pitch in, and each of you can be on top of the different aspects of your kitchen fittings project.
One other thing you have to consider in your measurements is your kitchen equipment. What are the exact dimensions of each appliance, equipment and other essentials? Each one should fit perfectly in each space allotted for them with just the right room to pull them out or place them back in whenever the need arises.
Also check the measurements of your kitchen’s permanent fixtures like windows and such. This will give you a more accurate measurement of the walls when you consider paints or wallpapers.
