You could get a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science or doctorate degrees in nutrition sciences or studies. After your completion of all nutritionist courses for your degree, these schools could provide you with the necessary professional certification.
Nutritionist courses mainly give particular focus on the chemical and biological makeup of food and the corresponding impact to the body and health, the integration of proper diet to a healthy lifestyle, the correct nutrition for diet-related illnesses or diseases, and modification of diet for overall well being. Nutrition education gives emphasis on maintaining health and building energy through proper diet. The courses will teach you the impact proper nutrition has on lifecycles, drugs, health, diseases, and habits. You will be equipped with the skills on nutrition counseling and treatment of eating disorders.
Nutritionist courses include food chemistry, processing, analysis, development, microbiology, safety, lab study, biology, biochemistry, sociology, and psychology. They may also include subjects not related to food science like math, communication, computer, and elective subjects. Nutritionist courses comprise a four-year bachelor degree.
Continuing Education
After a course, you would learn how to create a personalized, modified and planned healthy diet for your clients. You would be allowed to specialize in a particular food science – dietetics, geriatric nutrition, environmental health, nutrition management, food safety, and sports nutrition. The curriculum varies for each nutritionist and specialization.
