Increase the Battery Life of Your Cordless Tools
Have you ever experienced getting out your cordless tools and getting dismayed at finding out that the battery has died out already? This is always very inconvenient since you’ll have to buy new batteries before you can use your tools, which means you won’t be able to do whatever small repair job you’re supposed to finish. If you want to increase the life of your cordless tools batteries, here are some tips.
First, remember that excessive heat can drastically shorten the life of a rechargeable battery. If you feel like you’re buying new batteries too often, then you’re probably not getting a good usage time between each recharging.
You’ll have to look at the way you’re currently charging your batteries to see what the problem is. Make sure you keep and use your recharger in a cool place. Recharging batteries in a warm room can shorten the life span of your batteries. If possible, place a fan on the charger to reduce the heat built up during the recharging process.
Second, remember that batteries aren’t indestructible. It’s surprising how a lot of people can be careless not only with their tools but with the batteries as well. Make sure you store the battery and the tool in a case or cushioned cordless tools kits as much as possible.
Third, remember that water can ruin your batteries. Don’t leave your tools and battery lying around, especially when it’s raining. Make sure you always keep the battery and tool clean and dry. Wipe off any moisture since this can affect the performance of both the battery and the tool. If you’re working outside and it starts to rain, you need to stop and take a break.
Fourth, never ever charge a battery longer than you should. Over charging will reduce the life span of your battery, so make sure you pay attention to the length of time that each battery should be recharged.
Fifth, this may seem obvious, but make sure you use the correct charger. You’ll be surprised to find out that there are some people who keep trying to recharge a makita battery in a dewalt charge, and then wonder why it’s not working. Make sure the battery and charger is the correct match because trying to use a different charger could destroy your battery.
Sixth, always make sure you have back up batteries just in case you need to use your tools urgently. It’s better than having to settle with your regular hand tools.
