Design Your Own Kitchen - Layout and Color Ideas

KitchenYour kitchen is probably the heart of your home. This is where you snatch a few minutes every morning to be with your family or your children before rushing off to work or sending them to school. It is basically where you start and end your day everyday.

It is the one room in your house where anybody can just come in without fear of invading someone’s privacy, and this is also where you’ve dreamed dreams while holding your hot cup of coffee and perhaps even fantasized about high school crushes and childhood sweethearts.

In a nutshell, the kitchen is the one place that has witnessed what could be more than half of your experiences growing up and fond memories of childhood and heartaches. It is therefore only proper that you design it in such a way that it will be able to hold up to all of these expectations and more.

Picking Your Kitchen Design

Your kitchen doesn’t need to be huge or expensive to be able to make it work for you. The more important thing to consider is actually the kitchen design you will be using for your house – that and the essentials you’ll be getting for it.

When designing your layout, give enough room for moving around. Better still, design it in such a way that makes it accessible to anyone – physically-challenged or otherwise. It will be a welcome feature that everyone will appreciate and be grateful for.

Choose colors that are warm and don’t cause strain on the eyes as some colors have the tendency to cause migraine headaches. Earth colors are good and warm. Make sure that your colors are well-coordinated with the entire room since clashing colors could ruin your kitchen design.

Where you put your kitchen appliances is also vital. A cluttered look, no matter how modern your kitchen equipments are, will also ruin the look of your kitchen. Place them in strategic locations that are both convenient for you or the one who will be using them and aesthetically well-placed.

Kitchen Add-Ons

Since you spend most of your time in the kitchen, you might want to add a few things to make it more versatile than it already is. Try putting in a stereo or television to keep you entertained while you’re waiting for your meals to simmer or while you’re having a relaxing meal after a full day’s work.

You can even make it a mini component or CD changer to give it that extra edge. For the television, why not go all the way and get yourself a good LCD television and mount it on the wall? This will definitely enhance the look of your kitchen.
Depending on your kitchen design, you can also put in one or two potted plants to give it a refreshing touch. Please don’t even consider fake plants as these are worse than not putting any plant at all.

Finally, don’t forget that your kitchen design should be as comfortable as possible for anyone who wants to sit down and eat or whip up a 30-minute meal after work. Bear in mind that comfortable doesn’t mean shabby, and stylish doesn’t mean stiff. If your design is good, you can mix both comfort and style and come up with a kitchen that’s worth coming home to.
