Almost everyone, at some point in their lives, will have to visit an eye doctor or an ophthalmologist. An ophthalmologist is an eye care physician who treats eye conditions or diseases and correct eyesight problems. There are specialists treating eye disorders such as ophthalmologist, optometrist and optician, but there are some differences between them. Ophthalmologists are doctors that operate on patient’s eye while the two do not. Now, the question is what their common activities are. It includes consultation with clients, complete eye examinations, reviewing test results and explaining to the clients the treatment options and other necessary additional tests. They have to meet with other medical staff for the patient’s treatment if necessary. They have to hire and train support staff including nurses and assistants if appropriate; making sure that patients’ records and files are maintained. They have to attend additional education and training with other specialization for treating eye disorders. They have to be updated on the modern and new technologies associated with treating eye disorders such as LASIK and the likes.

If you want to undergo eye surgery, you must research and weigh your options. Choose your ophthalmologist well. Get some referrals from their colleagues. You must make sure that the surgeon who will perform the operation on your eye is an experienced surgeon because there is a lot more difference between an ophthalmologist from someone who doesn’t know one end of the scalpel to the other.
