Waterbed sheets could last a lifetime if given proper care. It can make the difference between a good, deep sleep or a nightmare. So, it is important that the purchaser would select the best there is that is suited to his needs before going ahead and buying something he would only store in the closet.

Waterbed sheets are different from conventional beds. Because of their unique sizes, it could be very hard to find sheets for them. However, the sheets are now offered in leading stores and the Internet, and one would just need to know where to look to find quality bed sheets. The difference between a waterbed sheet from a conventional bed sheet is that it is made with two flat sheets put together around the center of the lower end or the foot area. The bottom sheet has four triangular pockets to be placed at the four corners of the waterbed. The pockets are to secure the linen so that it would be fixed and would only be removed if it is time to change the sheets.

Different Materials for a Bed Sheet

There are several types of bed sheets. One of the leading would be the cotton bed sheets for a waterbed. There is such a thing as thread count. Usually, cotton sheets sell with 80 to a thousand thread count, and the higher the thread count, the most expensive the fabric is. Make sure that when purchasing a cotton sheet, keep in mind the thread count as usually the companies making the sheets would only include about forty percent of cotton and the rest would be inferior materials. Remember, if a sheet is made up of complete cotton, then the softer it would feel. Softness is a key for a good night’s sleep.

Other materials for a bed sheet would be the flannel, which is a soft and warm fabric. Smooth satin is also available for waterbeds. A satin sheet made of silk could be very expensive, but its quality compensates for the price.

Quilts and Other Comforts

Others hail waterbeds for the warmth they provide, but just in case your heater doesn’t cut it, then you couldn’t go wrong with a quilt. A quilt is designed to keep the user snug and comfortable. Who knows? Maybe sleeping with a quilt is the only thing you are lacking so you can’t have that good night’s sleep.

Have you ever wondered how it feels like to sleep on a waterbed? There is a huge difference between sleeping on one and on an ordinary bed, and it’s about time you decide which is the superior among the two.

Waterbed Mattresses Versus Ordinary Mattresses

On an ordinary mattress, it would be foolish to invest in one that is either too soft or too hard. But since you have very limited options in the market, most probably, you’ll end up with a firm bed. Still, that is not enough because you’re still not guaranteed a baby-like sleep on your new mattress since the firmness of a bed could affect how you sleep.

On an ordinary mattress, those who are prone to allergies could have allergic attacks for a period of time. However, waterbeds are very hypoallergenic. This type of bed does not accumulate dust mites or other skin particles in the interior of the mattress, so there would be no sneezing provided you clean it regularly.

Instead of relieving your tired back, an ordinary mattress can aggravate the pain when you can’t relax properly because the firmness of the bed does not support your back. With a waterbed, the mattress shapes itself around the person sleeping in the bed, so the body is fully supported. What’s more, with the soothing and calming effect it gives, with the help of the heater and the motions, you’ll wake up feeling like a brand new person.

Basics about Waterbed Mattresses

Waterbed mattresses have different thickness and degrees of stability. It can run from free flow which means one little move will cause a wave to a mattress with almost no motion whatsoever. The stability of a mattress is already decided when you purchase it. You’ll have to select what degree of motion you’ll want your waterbed to come in. The usual lifespan of a waterbed mattress could reach up to fifteen years as long as you care properly for the bed.

For sizes, soft-sided waterbeds are available at universal sizes of king, queen, twin, and single. For hard-sided waterbeds, the king’s size would change to 6 x 7 feet and the queen would be 5x 7 feet.

Maintaining the mattress would be very easy since vinyl mattress only needs regular cleaning. Use vinyl conditioners to wipe the exterior and water conditioners for the interior of the mattress to avoid the buildup of bacteria.

It is not enough that you buy a waterbed, fill it with water, plug in the liner and the heater, and then you’ll jump in and sleep. No, you still have to maintain it in order for your bed to last long and to give you good results. Now, the common connotation of people when they hear the word “conditioner” is the liquid they place on their heads in order to make the hair shiny and soft. Yes, there are some similarities between a waterbed conditioner and your hair conditioner.

Hair Conditioner Versus Waterbed Conditioner

Hair conditioner promises to protect the hair from bacteria and germs that might harm your silky manes. Likewise, a waterbed conditioner aims to protect your bed by keeping all harmful elements away.

It works like this – a waterbed conditioner serves as an algaecide or biocide. A conditioner stabilizes the water’s quality so that algae and/or bacteria growth are stopped even before they develop. Like an antibody in a human’s blood, the conditioner fights away foreign bodies from the water to keep it clean and safe for use. Conditioners keep the inside of a mattress healthy.

As for the vinyl covering of a mattress, you can use vinyl cleaners regularly to ensure that your mattress is clean.

Most experts would advise you to add at least 4oz of conditioner every six months. If your mattress is well conditioned, then chances are you would have no need to drain your waterbed for at least 10 years unless you have to move it.

Where to Purchase Waterbed Conditioners

Waterbed conditioners are available wherever waterbeds are sold. You could check out furniture outlets, malls, supermarkets, and the internet for various offers.

The best thing you could do about your conditioner is to buy a conditioner as a part of your very own maintenance kit. A maintenance kit is usually designed to last at least 12 months.

Remember, when buying a conditioner, keep in mind that you need one that would condition your mattress water, the fibers of your mattress, and the foam. It should also be able to treat and lubricate the interior of your waterbed for optimum performance.

The million dollar question – why would you have to buy conditioners and not simply let the water be? Without conditioning, your waterbed could develop noisy bubbles. These bubbles, my friend, will make sleeping very, very difficult, trust me.

Accessories are important. Therefore, the most important piece of your bedroom furniture should not go without décor – your waterbed must also be accessorized.

Waterbed Accessories for Comfort

On top of the list would have to be the waterbed heaters. Waterbed heaters are essential for the comfort of waterbeds since they keep the mattress warm and snug. Choose a heater that has a low wattage to minimize expenses.

Another accessory for comfort would have to be the safety liners. Safety liners are important because they protect the furniture, carpet and appliances in the off chance that your waterbed will leak. A safety liner can save you a lot of time and effort from cleaning messes derived from leaks. The same would go for mattress pads. You cannot have a waterbed without a mattress pad.

Now, for real comfort, you can avail of padded cap rails which would give you additional comfort on the frames. Speaking of frames, there are metal bed frames which you can take advantage of that offers headboard attachments or with footboard attachments. You can really relax with this accessory.

Do you have bruises because you keep on hitting the pedestals during nighttime? Well, corner extrusions are now available to keep your flesh safe from any bumps.

Last would be the ever dependable zip on pillows, quilts and other bed sheets. Now, this will make your sleep truly memorable.

Waterbed Accessories for Maintenance and Care

For essentials, a Fill and Drain Kit can certainly make your life easier. Paired with either a garden hose with valve adapter or a garden hose with siphon adapter, then it would be very easy to drain and refill your waterbed. When draining, it is essential that you have a faucet adapter to allow the water to pass from the faucet, which then will go through the hose and end inside the mattress. Others will prefer electric waterbed pumps, while some would love the manual labor.

For those who are worried about small tears and leaks, then a patch kit could come in handy. This will repair any small tears and holes that could make your life miserable if it gets bigger.

Finally, for maintaining the mattress itself, you would need a vinyl cleaner. This will moisturize and protect the outer cover of a mattress, while waterbed conditioner, algaecide and bubble eliminator will clean the interior of the mattress. Regular conditioning is needed in order to give your mattress a longer life span.

There are several frames offered in the market, and waterbed owners are asking a lot of questions. For instance, is it necessary to buy a frame? Can you use an old bed frame? What would you expect from a starter bed? This article will answer those questions, and more.

A Frame for Your Bed

Frames could help you sleep better at night while lying in a waterbed. Furthermore, it could give your bed additional beauty and space as some waterbed manufacturers offer frames with drawers, therefore, capturing the bed at its finest.

This and more are reasons why you should invest on a frame for your very own waterbed. It is not enough just to have a waterbed mattress. You need to have a frame in order to make it more beautiful and useful. A frame supports the mattress, and you could sleep more peacefully if your bed is at least a foot higher above the floor.

However, frames do not need to be expensive. If you own an old divan, you can attach a soft-sided waterbed mattress on it and enjoy the luxury of a waterbed. Another alternative would be to use an old bed frame. Soft-sided waterbeds are the same size with conventional mattresses, so you will have a very cheap investment. However, if you are in the mood to splurge, here are some choices to select from.

Choices

Mostly, waterbed frames are made up of pine and oak. There are some that offer pure, solid pine and could range from light, medium to dark pine finish. The same are true with oaks. There are light to almost medium finish.

You could avail of canopy bed frames with majestic posts to give you a feel of royalty. Your frame could come with mirror panels, dressing bench, pedestals, or drawers. Another choice could be a starter bed. With five boards of solid pine, you could have a frame with a pedestal, heater, liner, and other accessories.

All of these are available wherever waterbeds are sold. Keep in mind though that purchasing frames could be costly. However, as in most cases in life, you would have to spend in order to earn something important and valuable. A wood frame could last you a lifetime if you take good care of it. Who knows? Your new wood frame might become your family’s heirloom for generations to come and other family members getting to enjoy the comforts it gave you.

Today’s society is now changing for something more exciting – people left and right are investing on waterbeds. You might be wondering why this phenomenon is happening, and here are the reasons why you should follow the craze.

Waterbeds Versus Ordinary Beds

During the chilly winter season, what would be the best thing to do to evade the cold? Pack your bed with dozens of quilts and pray that it is enough to warm your bones? Here is a better answer – enjoy life with a waterbed.

A waterbed is known for its snugness and the warmth it can deliver everyday. Equipped with a heater, you can have the choice of turning the thermostat up or down.

It can also give you the sensation of relaxing on water. Depending on what mattress you will purchase, a waterbed can be very wavy to a mattress with almost no motion. An ordinary bed can never offer that service. With an ordinary bed, all you can do is lay on it and bear with its either extreme softness or extreme firmness. Waterbed gives you different options to make sure you are contented with your choice.

The Benefit of Waterbeds Health-Wise

For people suffering from backache, an ordinary bed could do nothing to alleviate the pressure. The best they can hope for is an orthopedic bed that promises to lessen the pain. Although many people were converted, some are still cynical about the results though. With waterbeds, the results speak for themselves. One night in this bed can make you feel refreshed and energized for a fresh day ahead. This is because the mattress shapes itself around the person sleeping above it so that there would be equal support throughout the body, relieving the spine of the pain.

Another important trait of a waterbed is that there is no chance of dust mites settling into the mattress. The vinyl is very hard to penetrate, so that those who are prone to allergies are safe.

There are several other benefits of waterbeds, and you would need to try it to see for yourself. Waterbeds are for sale in furniture shops, in leading malls and Internet shops. Try to canvass for waterbeds that are motion-free, which would say that no matter how much you move, the water is stable underneath you. This way you can see the beauty of a waterbed without saying you were just convinced by a salesman.

Have you ever tried sleeping on a waterbed only to wake up with a horrible stomachache and your belly full of gas? How about tossing and turning from the cold? Well, fret no longer, the answer to your horrible nights is here.

What are Waterbed Heaters?

Yes, sir, there is such a thing as waterbed heaters. In fact, heaters are almost as essential as the tap water you place inside your mattress. A waterbed is known for its comfort and the heat it emits in cold winter.

Waterbed heaters are very safe. These instruments of science are double insulated with only one design in their lifespan – to warm a waterbed. However, with wrong usage, such as plugging it in a wet surface, it could cause danger both to the appliance and to the person. But with proper precaution (such as reading the owner’s manual), then your heater would outlast even your mattress.

Heaters work this way – they are placed beneath the mattress and a safety liner with a thermostat within easy access so you can adjust the heat to your preference. After changing the temperature, you would have to wait for at least three days to make sure that the temperature you wanted and the heat you are receiving is accurate.

You would still have to plug in the heater in the heat of summer – although you will have to lower the thermostat. This is because a bedroom’s air temperature would be below a normal person’s skin temperature during the heat. If the heater is disconnected, the bed will immediately begin to cool.

Waterbed Heaters and Where to Get Them

There are normally two types of heaters – a full-watt heater and a low-watt heater. It is advisable to buy a low-watt heater to avoid costly bills. The energy consumption of some heaters is equal to those of a refrigerator. Some, however, would equal to an air-conditioning unit. So make sure that you buy a low-wattage heater to minimize your costs.

However, there is always an alternative. You can still indulge in waterbeds and not buy a heater. How? The secret would come in the form of the beddings. Quilts, bed sheets, pillows, and other bedding covers could increase warmth. With your loved one around you to cuddle with during nighttime plus all those warm bedding covers, then the chill might almost pass unnoticed as you sleep in total slumber.

Waterbeds will only give you the good feeling associated with it if the bed is properly taken care of. Here are the supplies that can make your bed last for a long time.

Necessary Supplies

There are some items that an owner would have to purchase. These items are available in malls and the Internet, so getting a hold of them is no problem.

Heaters are one of the basic needs for a waterbed. Normally, heaters require at least 8 inches of water to function properly. There is a vast selection of heaters in the market, such as the WB 6405 Calesco Solid State (325 Watt) Heater for wood-framed waterbeds. This is a full-wattage heater, which means to say that it will take a lot of energy and would be very costly if you plug it in. However, there are low-wattage heaters like the WB 6403 Calesco Solid State (170 Watt) Heater, which is not as expensive as the former. It promises to heat up the bed in the same manner a full-watt heater would offer.

Next would be a safety liner. waterbed mattresses are encased in safety liners in order to avoid getting the furniture wet in case the bed develops a leak. It is necessary that a waterbed owner purchase this since some electronic gadgets could no longer be functional after getting wet. The best type is the vinyl stand-up safety liners.

Maintenance, Care and Draining Purposes

A vinyl repair kit or a patch kit would help the owner fix a small leak in a matter of minutes. Leaks should be avoided in a waterbed as a single, small leak could cost you hundreds of dollars when you try to have it repaired. It is best to fix a hole whilst it is small.

For mattress care, several items are needed. A multipurpose vinyl cleaner and protectant is a must in order to preserve the surface. A multi-care waterbed conditioner is another necessity. Others would prefer dropping conditioning tablets inside the waterbed, but some would prefer the manual labor.

Lastly, filling and draining a waterbed is a huge task. For some who wants to save precious minutes, then these items would come in handy. A 25’ hose, faucet adapter, mattress adapter, and a fill, drain and conditioner kit could make the job easier. The kit contains instructions on how to fill, drain and condition a waterbed, and the hose and adapters will assist you finish the job in an earlier time.
