Most people don’t realize that bamboo, no matter how tall it grows, is really a type of grass. It is mostly found in tropical areas around the world. It is for this reason that these plants have adapted to regions with warm weather and abundant rainfall.

The bamboo is exquisitely beautiful that garden enthusiasts search for bamboo plants for sale to raise them indoors.

Before planting your first bamboo indoor, you have to be aware that these plants require much humidity and warmth. Deprive them of these factors and you’ll be raising unhappy and unhealthy plants.

After purchasing your bamboo, place it in a sheltered area that has both light and shade. This will give the plant a chance to adapt to living indoors. Do not give the bamboo any fertilizer at home as it may have already been fertilized in the nursery. Before taking the bamboo home, be sure to ask the nursery staff for care instructions.

The degree of care indoor bamboo needs depends on the time of its planting. If it is planted during the winter season, then extra protection is needed and the wintry soil has to be loosened deep down to the roots.

The amount of watering your bamboo should receive depends on the distinct climate in its current location. If you discover that the soil indoor dries out faster than it should, then soaking the plant in water for a while will revive it after getting on with insufficient water.

Bamboo doesn’t necessarily have to be watered everyday. In bamboo plants care, each plant
is handled on a case-to-case basis. You will know it needs more water if the bamboo’s leaves are curling. Leaves hanging down means the plant is getting too much water.

Misting is an important step for taking care of the watering needs of your plant. It involves spraying fine mist of water on the plant which imitates the condition the bamboo is accustomed to. Using a vaporiser can accomplish this task.

As much as bamboo is resistant to pests, they sometimes get infested with insects, microbes or fungus that cause spots to appear. Your garden supply store can tell you the right amount of pesticide to use.

Becoming adept in the care of bamboo plants comes with a bit of practice and patience. You will have to take your bamboo outside in your garden occasionally to allow it to get the right amount of sunlight necessary for photosynthesis.

Do your feline pets occasionally chew on your houseplants? If you’re tired of cleaning leaves on your floor or worried sick that your favorite plant will get nibbled to death, then it’s time to raise some house plants for cats.

Cat owners know for a fact that cats love to nibble on plants. If this is kind of new to you, then you probably haven’t been around cats for long. From time to time, cat owners will see their cat munch on some grass or shrub in the garden.

There’s a scientific reason behind this. Cats occasionally have some trouble coughing up a hairball and need to chew on some plant to induce vomiting. Cats usually know what plant to nibble on. However, there is this chance that they can ingest something poisonous.

Most home owners usually can’t tell if a certain plant is poisonous. If this is your case, then you can visit your local ASPCA to get a complete list of toxic house plants that can affect your pet’s well-being.

The lily, marigold, tulip, aloe vera, English ivy and marijuana are among those listed as poisonous house plants that can make your cat sick.

Dactylis glomerata, more commonly known as cat grass, is a good plant to have around your garden. It will give cats something to nibble on and provide supplemental nutrients essential to cats. Cats can consume several blades of cat grass daily so feed them just enough to keep them asking for more.

Cat grass are best planted in short, wide pots and placed in places that cats usually hang around in. Wide pots are advisable for use as they won’t get tipped over by your feline pet, thus avoiding a big mess.

However, some cats don’t go well with cat grass and end up getting sick all over your house. Test your cat with a few blades of cat grass and wait for some reaction. If your cat exhibits no violent reaction, then you can proceed with your cat grass production.

If you want your cats to leave your house plants alone, then you should also try catnip, a welcome treat that felines love. Cats tend to go nuts after ingesting catnip so be sure that your pot is stable to avoid getting knocked over.

Treating your cats with catnip and cat grass will not only save your other plants from getting chewed out; it will also ensure that you pets won’t get hooked to dangerous weeds.

Raising outdoor plants successfully takes careful planning and ample time before your vision of an attractive garden can be a reality. Have a plan ready, roll up your sleeves and immerse yourself in this engaging and rewarding task.

Before you start planting, first be sure to have a ready ground plan for the arrangement of your outdoor garden. Bring the sketches or photos of your garden design to the local greenhouse and discuss your plans with the staff. They will be more than willing to offer suggestions.

The type of plant to be raised will be determined by the amount of sunlight your garden receives, the type of soil, and the quantity of rainfall or watering it will require for regular maintenance. Also check if the plant can withstand very cold weather if you live in that part of the country.

Unless you are professional gardener, raise your plants according to instructions provided by the packaging. Although you depart a little from the nursery’s instruction to add in your own touch, be sure to provide the outdoor plants and bushes adequate space and sunlight to make your garden vibrant and attractive.

Be sure to finish what you started. Many aspiring gardeners start off with great enthusiasm and slowly lose steam towards the middle of their project, and abandon their hard labour in one messy heap. When you consider landscaping or gardening, make sure that you have plentiful time and high levels of energy and enthusiasm to see your undertaking through.

Once you have your plants in the soil, set up a timer-activated sprinkler or make a regular schedule to water them yourself. Or you can assign this as a daily routine for a family member. If you don’t have the time yet have the money, hire professional help. Although this may be a bit costly, it will prove cheaper rather than getting your garden ruined and done all over again.

Do a bit of online research to update your knowledge and try out up to date gardening techniques. Find out how professional gardeners use the latest pesticides, fertilizers, and watering system to raise better outdoor plants and flowers in their gardens.

Most garden plants need to be clipped and pruned to ensure successful and healthy growth. Never take this task for granted because failure to do so can irreparably damage your plants.

Make a monthly schedule to inspect and trim your plants. Setting up this one day per month will mean a lot to the health and quality of life of your plants.

What are the ideal garden pots and planters that make up a container garden? Though it may not be an artistic masterpiece, a container should be pleasing to the eyes. It should be durable enough to survive every weather condition. This should apply to all containers that are kept outside throughout the year.

Depending on the area you live in, different weather conditions such as extreme sun and heat, excessive humidity, freezing cold and thawing are factors that fade and damage containers. These conditions should be greatly considered when planning your container garden.

The best containers for your garden should be big enough to contain the right amount of soil. It should have openings at the sides or bottom to provide proper drainage. It should be rust-resistant at least for a while and should be wide enough at the bottom to support it firmly in place. It should also be sufficiently heavy to hold up to windy conditions.

Being able to move your container garden when needed is an advantage and a precautionary measure as well. Large containers can be equipped with wheels or rested on mobile platforms.

During extreme weather conditions like cyclones and heavy snow, portable containers can be moved to a protective shelter. Heavy containers can be moved by two or more individuals with rollers. It is, however, a good idea to maintain small containers if you reside in a storm-prone area.

Unless you are using plastic garden pots, your containers should be resistant to rot. A wood preservative is the best protection for wooden containers, except for redwood, cypress and cedar which all have natural resistance to rot.

Start your gardening with clean garden containers since the health of your plants will depend on this. Whether new or used, clay gardening pots should be soaked overnight to prevent moisture absorption from the soil following planting. Moisture absorption by pots can deprive new plants of much-needed nutrition from the soil. Clean gardening pots look attractive in a container garden so you must clean the dirty clay pots with hot water and a stiff brush.

Paints and stains can protect and enhance the look of garden containers. Clean the containers, apply a coat or two of paint or stain, and let dry completely. Cypress cedar and redwood can also be painted, although you can leave them natural. Similarly, containers made of metal concrete, plastic and other materials should be cleaned before planting.

Knowing the ideal garden pots and how to prepare them before planting is a great step when you start your own container garden.

Are you thinking of sprucing up your house and enhancing your interior decorations by having some indoor plants? This is a wonderful way to take a piece of nature inside your home. Wouldn’t it be nice to have plants that clean air spread out in your house? However, you have to remember that these will require a certain amount of effort on your part in order to keep them in good condition. So how exactly do you take care of them? Here are some tips.

First, consider the usual temperature inside the room. In general, plants should be kept in a place that is within the range of 55 – 65 degrees Fahrenheit in the evening and within the range of 60 – 70 degrees Fahrenheit during daytime. You need to monitor the temperature so that they won’t get damaged by excessive heat or excessive cold. You can use a room thermometer so that you’ll always know when to switch your heater or air conditioner on or off, depending on the situation.

Second, make sure your plants have sufficient water. Read up or ask about how much water your particular plant needs. There are those which need to be watered frequently, and those that shouldn’t be “drowned” by excessive watering. Avoid using chemical treated water on plants. In fact, one good tip is to fill your watering pot the night before and let the water stand overnight before using it on your plants. If the air in your room is too dry, you may also want to spray water on the leaves of your plant to keep them healthy-looking.

Third, don’t underestimate the importance of sunlight. This is a very important component that must be considered when talking about indoor plants care. The best thing to do is to let your plants receive sunlight only indirectly. Do not place them in an area that gets hit by direct sunlight because it can cause your plant to become very dry. Avoid placing plants near windows where they can be exposed to the elements such as rain, strong winds and direct sunlight. Instead, place them strategically in areas where they can get indirect sunlight and nothing more.

Fourth, do some research in order to find out whether there are specific things you should be doing to improve the health of your particular plant. After all, there are plants that require special treatment in order to really blossom.
