Bare Bikes and Hybrid Bikes for Trekking and Touring

Bike in the natureThose with no knowledge about bicycles would think that a plain, conventional bicycle is the best choice. They would prefer the ones with the shiny handles and no mudguards than the ones with mudguards and other accessories but without the shine. That is the wrong impression since those extra parts actually mean comfort and protection both for the rider and the bicycle itself.

Still, most people will opt to go for hybrid bikes. In bikes, hybrid bikes are just like crossbreeding in dogs. It is impossible to sell a puppy with a pitbull and shih tzu in its blood line. Most breeders will vouch for a full-blooded puppy, and it sells for a higher price.

In bicycles, hybrid bikes are bicycles that are sold with just frame and wheels. There are no accessories that are essential for everyday use, such as mudguards, carrier, and lights. These parts are important since mudguards help keep a rider’s clothes clean, which is vital if he is riding to work. Carriers are also significant as this will help the rider be more comfortable by allowing him a place to store his bags and goods, freeing his shoulders from the tension of carrying a backpack through the humps.

The Reason for Selling Bare Bikes

Bare bikes are offered at cheaper prices than those that come with all the necessary parts. Also, these bicycles look lighter and more lustrous, which captures the buyer’s eyes. Most first time bike buyers will prefer a shiny bike than a bike that is covered with what they think is “unnecessary junk.”

The reason why these bikes are sold without the other parts is because the manufacturers will make more profit. There is less hassle for them to sell bare bikes because they attract new customers and will give them more money for selling parts that should be in the bicycle as accessories.

In the long run though, the biker will suffer for this cheap trill. The time will come that the rider will realize he needs those parts in order to maximize his bicycle, and so he will buy what he thought were additional parts. However, there is a risk involved. By purchasing parts, the rider can never be sure if it is the right one for his bike. There are sellers who are only after profit and will say that the certain part is used for a certain bike, and if a wrong part is sold to the wrong bike, then the danger would fall on the rider. It would be safer to have the accessories already attached on the bike when purchased and included under the warranty than to have to search the parts himself.

Trekking Bikes

Now trekking bikes are available, and this will make those who purchased hybrid bikes have an easier time. With a trekking bike, it uses the same tires, brakes, gears, and features the same relaxed upright position like the traditional bicycle does. The only difference on this hybrid bike is that the handle may be straight like a mountain bike, (if that part is taken from a mountain bike), or a butterfly-shaped handlebar is attached. The butterfly-shaped handlebar will provide a more upright position.

With trekking bikes, the bicycle can still have its lightweight frame. Only now it is more secure and safer to use as it will feature the essential accessories and will upgrade it to an upmarket hybrid. In case the owner wants to resell his bike, then the price will go up along with the added extras. Now the bikers can bike without the risk.
