A Business Credit Check isn’t Free, but it’s Important

Cash and lockWith the current trend where money rarely changes hands in face-to-face transactions and both parties merely trust that the other will pay, the almighty credit rating has become even more valuable. It informs the rest of the world of just how trustworthy you are based on previous transactions and financial dealings as well as the current state of your finances. As an individual, it’s important to always keep tabs on your personal finances. The urgency for monitoring is even greater for companies and corporate entities (that means your company) because they deal with large amounts of money, and a low credit rating could prove disastrous within a few years.

Credit Checking

Believe it or not, there are institutions that are dedicated to keeping track of your credit rating by picking up information about your financial affairs and whether they turned out well or not. They’re the ones who take all the factors into consideration, create a credit history and generate, for your business, a business credit score. This is what you then take to the bank, to the investors and to the board of directors when they ask for it.

Don’t expect this to be free, though. The providers of these services – credit unions – charge real money every time someone, whether bank, institution or individual, asks for their own or someone else’s credit score. They make money through that, charging for every inquiry made to them.

Almost as Important

The results of a business credit check of a business under you are almost like the business’ health. You have to keep checking up on it (using business credit check services provided by credit unions and other financial institutions), and you have to seek professional help once it deteriorates to a certain state. This is because money fuels businesses, and your business credit rating tells the world how much money is safe to entrust to your business. A good business credit rating will tell potential investors that your business is properly managed in terms of finances, while a bad business credit rating sends a message that there is something seriously wrong with the way money is handled. This is why, even though checking business credit ratings is expensive, it’s still in the best interest of the business to do so. The money and the reputation you save in the long term will be worth several thousands of dollars more than the small fee you pay for a credit check.
